        ตอนที่เริ่มเรียนกายภาพบำบัดเมื่อกว่า50ปีที่แล้วก็ไม่ได้รู้เลยว่ากายภาพบำบัดคืออะไร รู้แต่ว่าเป็นอาชีพทางด้านการแพทย์ที่ให้การรักษาที่ไม่ใช้ยาและการผ่าตัด ในตอนนั้นเข้าใจว่าเป็นการรักษาที่ใช้เรื่องมือทางฟิสิกค์คือความร้อนแสงเสียงไฟฟ้ากลศาสตร์ เป็นต้น 

        เมื่อเรียนจบเมื่อปี 2513 ตั้งใจอย่างเดียวว่าอยากรักษาผู้ป่วยทางระบบประสาทเท่านั้นจึงเริ่มทำงานครั้งแรกที่สถาบันประสาทวิทยาทั้งที่ตอนนั้นอยากทำงานที่ไหนก็เลือกได้เพราะกายภาพบำบัดเป็นที่ต้องการมากๆทั้งในมหาวิทยาลัยก็มีครูบาอาจารย์ชักชวนให้ทำงานที่มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดลแต่ได้เห็นผู้ป่วยอัมพาตเป็นกลุ่มผู้ป่วยที่มีความพิการมากกว่ากลุ่มผู้ป่วยอื่นๆทำให้อยากใช้ความรู้ความสามารถช่วยเหลือผู้ป่วยกลุ่มนี้จึงเลือกทำงานที่สถาบันประสาทวิทยาและได้พยายามศึกษาค้นคว้าเทคนิกการรักษาผู้ป่วยอัมพาตครึ่งซีกตลอดเวลาและตอนนั้นคิดว่าเราก็มีประสบการณ์มาสมควร 

        ปี 2529 คณะเทคนิคการแพทย์มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่เปิดหลักสูตรกายภาพบำบัดจึงตัดสินใจย้ายไปเป็นอาจารย์ที่นั่นเป็นเวลา4ปี

        ปี 2532 ได้มีโอกาสไปทำงานกายภาพบำบัดที่อเมริกาได้มีโอกาสเรียนรู้เข้าฝึกอบรมหลากหลายมากทำให้เข้าใจได้อย่างลึกซึ้งเกี่ยวกับงานกายภาพบำบัดว่าเป็นอาชีพที่มีหน้าที่แก้ไขความบกพร่องทางการเคลื่อนไหวและฟื้นฟูพัฒนาการเคลื่อนไหวให้ผู้ป่วยและผู้ที่มารับบริการให้มีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดีขึ้นความตั้งใจที่ไม่เคยเปลี่ยนคือการศึกษาค้นคว้าหาความรู้ต่างๆเพื่อพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตของผู้ที่เป็นอัมพาตและต้องการถ่ายทอดความรู้ให้กับนักกายภาพบำบัดเพื่อพัฒนางานกายภาพบำบัดในประเทศไทยด้วยการเป็นวิทยากรสอนเทคนิคการรักษาผู้ป่วยอัมพาต

วิยะดา ศักดิ์ศรี มีความเชี่ยวชาญในการรักษาผู้ปวยอัมพาตครึ่งซีก ผู้ป่วยอัมพฤกษ์ ผู้ป่วยทางระบบประสาท ผู้ป่วยหลังการผ่าตัดเปลี่ยนข้อเข่า ข้อสะโพก และผู้สูงอายุ นอกเหนือจากการดูแล รักษาผู้ป่วยที่คลินิก ยังได้ทำการสอนนักกายภาพบำบัดในประเทศไทย เรื่อง “เทคนิกการรักษาผู้ป่วยอัมพาตครึ่งซีก” ปีละหลายครั้ง เพื่อช่วยพัฒนานักกายภาพบำบัดในประเทศไทย
